the Meghalayan Age Day event held in MLCU
To commemorate the fifth year of the Meghalayan Age, the Faculty of Arts and Culture,
Martin Luther Christian University, organised an event on the theme, “The Meghalayan Age:
Our Unique Geodiversity, Biodiversity and Cultural Assets”, which was held today June 14,
2023 in the university campus.
The Faculty of Arts and Culture, MLCU include the Department of Music; School of
Language and Literary Studies; and the Department of Environment and Traditional
Ecosystem. The Department of Tourism and Travel Management also collaborated in the
event.
The Chancellor of Martin Luther Christian University, Dr Glenn C Kharkongor also gave a
brief presentation on the origins of Meghalayan Age and why this new geologic age was
named after Meghalaya. Dr Kharkongor explained how Mawmluh cave, one of the longest
and deepest caves in Meghalaya showed conditions that were suitable for preserving
chemical signs of the transition in ages.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the various competitions that were held prior in
the week leading to the Meghalayan Age Day. The competitions included smartphone
photography competition, digital photography competition and handmade poster competition
and were open to schools and colleges.
The winners for the Handmade Poster competition were first prize to Liza Rani Basumatary,
Lady Keane College, second prize went to Noor Bano, Lady Keane College and third prize
went to Rodinal Lyngdoh, Shonroy Basan Secondary School. For the Smartphone
Photography competition first prized was won by Albert Banlam, second prize to Raymond
Wellis War, MLCU, third prize went to Amandame Lywait, MLCU. For the Digital Poster
Competition, the first prize was won by Fennyzia Marbaniang, and second prize went to
Chanchal Loro both are students from MLCU.
