Akashvani Shillong organizes seminar to celebrate India's glorious journey of G-20 Presidency

 In a significant event commemorating India’s G20 Presidency, Akashvani Shillong organized a Seminar today at NEHU Campus, Shillong. Commissioner Secretary to the Governor of Meghalaya Dr B D R Tiwari inaugurated the event where he called upon the students and participants to imbibe the values of One Earth, One Family, One Future which is the theme of G20 under India's Presidency. 

Dr Tiwari elaborated the idea of ‘Sarvajana Hitaya Sarvajana Sukhaya’, meaning the well being of all and the happiness of all, a world where the community and larger good take precedence over individual interests. Dr Tiwari said the G-20 presidency of India is a unique opportunity for our country, as India has many useful lessons to share with the world related to living a harmonious lifestyle with nature. He further said that today's seminar is to engage the youth on this glorious occasion of India’s G20 Presidency and sensitize them to the deliberations related to the sub-themes. India is known for its knowledge and wisdom, and the G-20 presidency of India would help in spreading India’s message to the world: Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, he added.

In the technical session Shri Aiborlang Wanswett, Senior Director (IT) & Scientist F, National Informatics Centre, Meghalaya, Shillong presented a paper on ‘Digital technologies for sustainable development’. Shri Vivek Lyngdoh, Jr. Research Fellow, Meghalaya Climate Change, Shillong presented a paper on ‘Go green – be kind to nature for a better future’ and a paper on 'Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security' was presented by Dr. Bingiala Laloo, Asstt. Prof., School of Crop Improvement, College of Post graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences, Umiam while Shri Vivek Kumar, Research Scholar, Department of Environmental Science, NEHU presented a paper on ‘Your Planet needs you – unite to combat climate change’. Students from different Departments of NEHU actively participated and interacted in the Seminar. The Seminar was chaired by Shri. Rahul Chatterjee.

An open quiz related to India's G20 Presidency evoked a massive response and the participants showcased their level of awareness and enthusiasm. The other attractions of the event, folk songs presentation by groups led by Smt Larihun Mawlong and Shri E W Kharsahnoh Songs, regaled the audience with variety and zest.

The welcome address was given by the Head of Office, Akashvani, Shillong Shri H. Diengdoh & vote of thanks was offered by Smt R. M. L. Marbaniang, Head of Programme, Akashvani, Shillong.

India will be hosting the G20 summit in New Delhi on the 9th and 10th of September. In the run-up to the big event, Akashvani has been organising a series of events as the official and the world's largest broadcaster.
