Mob Burns Manipur Minister's Private Godown To Ashes In Fresh Violence, Attempts To Torch Residence

 

Manipur minister L Susindro's private godown at Chingarel in Imphal East district has been torched by a group of people, reducing it to ashes, police said on Saturday. No casualty was reported. 

This incident follows an inspection undertaken by Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh recently to establish pre-fabricated homes for people displaced by violence in the state. 

Mob also targetted his residence 

An attempt was also made to torch another property of the consumer and food affairs minister and his residence at Khurai in the same district on Friday night, but timely intervention prevented it. 

Security forces had to fire several rounds of tear gas shells till midnight to prevent the mob from surrounding his Khurai residence and burning it down, police said.
