Maharashtra govt declares public holiday on Monday to mourn demise of Lata Mangeshkar


 The Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday on Monday as a mark of respect for legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar who died in Mumbai on Sunday. The state government has also declared a two-day state mourning.

"The state government has declared a public holiday in the state on Monday, February 7, 2022, to mourn the demise of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar," the Office of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said in a statement.

Earlier today, Lata Mangeshkar passed away at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to the hospital on January 8 after she tested positive for Covid-19. She was under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) over the past couple of weeks.

The central government has also decided to observe two days of national mourning in the memory of Lata Mangeshkar. The National Flag will fly at half-mast for two days as a mark of respect to the late singer.
