Cleanliness drive after idol immersion at Umukhara river immersion ghat

Shillong: Volunteers of CPC's Visarjan Ghat Development Committee, workers cleaned the Polo Umukhara Visarjan Ghat in Shillong on Sunday. During this, JCB was also installed on behalf of the committee to lift the debris. Every year after the idol immersion, there is a pile of dirt on the ghat. Apart from the remains of idols, flowers and garlands, debris and plastic bags are lying in the river and on the banks. The ghat is cleaned every year by running a cleanliness drive by the Central Puja Committee, (CPC).

Bindu Das, chairman of the CPC's Immersion Ghat Development Committee, said that with the help of CPC volunteers, laborers, JCBs and trucks, cleaning was done at Umukhra immersion ghat. Many trucks of silt and worship material were taken out from the Umukhra river..
