Indian Army seizes cartons of shotgun, grenades from miscreants in Manipur; 3 held


 

Security forces on Tuesday seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition at Kangchuk Chingkhong Junction in Manipur in the wake of the crisis in the state. The Indian Army recovered five shotguns, five improvised local grenades and three cartons of shotgun ammunition. 

Three people, suspected to be linked with militants, have been arrested in connection with the recovery of weapons.  The arms and ammunition have been handed over to the Manipur Police.

A statement by the Indian Army read, "Based on inputs, a mobile vehicle check post placed at Kangchuk Chingkhong Junction in Manipur, intercepted one Maruti Alto at 9:35 pm on Tuesday. Five shotguns, five improvised grenades and three cartons of shotgun ammunition have been recovered. Also, three people have been apprehended. They have been handed over to the police along with recoveries."

Clashes in Manipur broke out after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
