Gang robbing train passengers by giving them sleeping pill busted, 5 held in TN's Thiruppur


 

After a rise in complaints of theft during railway journeys, special teams were formed to nab the perpetrators. Police officials in Tamil Nadu's Thiruppur district nabbed a gang of five men in the act.

The complainants stated that the perpetrators had befriended them as they were North Indians. Then they shared biscuits and cool drinks laced with sleeping pills and stole their items.

Iruppupathai Police along with the cybercrime team began to monitor several railway stations and were able to catch a gang of five men right in the act.

Upon investigation, the five men were identified to be Salman, Manvar Alan, Mohammed Azad, Abdullah and Mahmud Alan from Bihar. The gang had been working in a garment factory in Thiruppur and was involved in the robbery.

The gang reportedly bought sleeping pills for Rs 100 without a doctor's prescription in Bihar, mixed them with food items, befriended North Indian passengers and robbed them.

Police officials, who filed a case against the gang, retrieved 30 cellphones and Rs 10,000 from the culprits.

Several strips of sleeping pills and cream biscuit packets were also recovered. Further investigations are underway.
