PUNEET SAGAR ABHIYAAN

 

National Cadet Corps (NCC) has been actively participating in nationwide “Puneet Sagar Campaign” on a mission mode since 01 December 2021 to keep the beaches, seashores and riverbanks free from plastic and other waste materials. The aim of Puneet Sagar Abhiyaan is to increase awareness about the importance of keeping clean beaches and riverbanks.

     41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC under the aegis of NCC Group Headquarters Shillong has taken up the  task  of spreading awareness among local populace in the vicinity of Simsang river and cleaning plastic and other waste material from its banks. The Simsang river which is known as Someshwari river in Bangladesh, originates from the Nokrek Peak and flows through the heart of Garo Hills touching Rongrenigiriri, William Nagar (Headquarters of East Garo Hills District), Nongalbibra, Rewak, Siju and Baghmara ( Headquarters of South Garo Hills district) dividing the area of Garo hills into two parts and enters Netrakona district of Bangladesh.

On 01 April 2022, 150 Senior Division (boys) and Senior Wing Cadets (girls) of 41 Meghalaya Bn NCC from Loyola College, Williamnagar and Govt College Williamnagar along with 300 students carried out an awareness rally in Williamnagar starting from Loyolo College and culminating at the banks of Simsang river. The rally was addressed by honorable Shri Alloysius ch Marak, Additional District Commissioner and CEO of Williamnagar municipality, East Garo Hills, Shri Satish KS, Indian Forest Service and  Principal Father Dr Sunny Augustine,  Loyola College Williamnagar  and flagged off at 1 pm. Cadets and students reached on the banks of river Simsang and cleaned the plastic waste from one kilometer area along the banks and disposed it off.  Subedar Ganesh Gurung, Havildar  Mohammad Kabi Sheikh, Havildar JR Reddy from 41 Meghalaya Bn NCC along with Lieutenant Antony, Lieutenant Daffling (Associate NCC Officers)   at Loyola College, Ms Balkari B Sangma and Sallam Leezer S Momin(Care Taker Officers) Govt College Williamnagar organized the disciplined and systematic conduct of the event and debriefed the Cadets.
